Climbing Pisang Peak was my first real mountain adventure. Standing at 6,091 meters (19,984 feet), it’s a moderate climb that felt anything but easy. It is located in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The peak offers a mix of trekking and alpine climbing.
The Journey
The trek began in Kathmandu, where I joined a group heading to Besisahar. From there, we trekked through villages like Chame and Upper Pisang, each step taking us higher into the mountains. The route is part of the Annapurna Circuit, known for its stunning landscapes and cultural richness.
The Climb
Reaching Base Camp at 4,380 meters was challenging. The air thinned, and each breath became more deliberate. We then ascended to High Camp at 5,400 meters, where the real climb began. Using crampons and ice axes, we navigated snow and ice to reach the summit.
Lessons Learned
This climb taught me more than just mountaineering skills. It taught me patience, waiting for the right moment to ascend. It taught me peace, finding calm in the midst of physical exertion. And it taught me resilience pushing through when every muscle screamed to stop.
Conclusion
Climbing Pisang Peak was more than a physical challenge; it was a journey of self-discovery. If you're considering it, know this: the mountain will test you, but it will also reward you with lessons that last a lifetime.
